This stylish and fashionable checkbook cover is quick & easy to make. Customize it using your favorite fabric scraps and bits of trims.
Step 1: Cut two pieces of fabric measuring 6 3/4″ x 7″ for checkbook covers. One piece will be outside front and one piece will be inside. Cut two pieces of fabric 6 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ for pockets.
Step 2: Turn long edge under 1/4″ on each of the pocket fabric pieces and stitch close to folded edge.
Step 3: With right sides up and raw edges together, pin one pocket to top and one pocket to bottom of inside cover piece. Baste in place using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Keep stitched edge of pocket open. Set aside.
Step 5: With right sides up, pin image to outside front checkbook cover. Position image approximately 1″ from bottom edge. Baste in place.
Step 6: Cut two 7″ pieces of 1/2″ wide ribbon. Pin in place on top and bottom edges of image. Zig-zag stitch in place.
Optional Step 7: Insert alphabet brads on top of ribbon. Make tiny slit with scissors if necessary. Be sure to position far enough from edges to allow for seam allowances. If you can’t find alphabet brads, any embellishments can work here. Be creative! Use cute buttons, crystals, vintage bits, etc.
Step 8: With right sides together, pin outside front checkbook cover with embellishments to inside pocketed piece. Stitch around all edges using a 1/4″ seam allowance and rounding corners if desired. Leave a 2″ section open for turning.
Step 9: Trim and turn right side out. Press. Slip-stitch opening shut.
Step 10: Insert checkbook in bottom pocket and register in top pocket.
