With summer almost over and back-to-school time just around the corner, put that apple for the teacher away and give him/her something special the first day of classes. Create this fun journal in a few quick and easy steps.
Inkjet printable paper for printing images
Wire-bound journal - size can vary
Blank shipping tag
One sheet of decorative/scrapbook paper that coordinates with your images
Ribbon/Trim/Vintage cloth measuring tape - for tying on tag and to trim length of journal
Spray adhesive/double sided tape/glue stick - preferred adhesive of choice
Craft knife/cutting mat - or - Hold punch to match size of holes along wire binding
Step One: Print out the handwriting page and the teacher with stars images from the Back to School - IE156 Collection. Re-size images if needed to fit where desired (teacher image should fit neatly on shipping tag and handwriting page should cover the journal front & back). Adhere using your preferred method of adhesive the teacher image to the front of the shipping tag. If you choose, you can write a personal note on the back.
Step Two: Remove the wire from the journal. Adhere the handwriting page to the front of the journal keeping it flush with the left side over the holes. Using either the craft knife or hole punch, cut the holes out of the paper. Cut a strip out of the coordinating paper - approximately 2 inches wide or the size appropriate for your journal size - and adhere to the right front side of the journal cover overlapping the handwriting if necessary. See the sample image for placement if needed.
Step Three. Cut ribbon/trim (we used cotton trim with a vintage measuring tape look) long enough to cover the journal from top to bottom with about 1/2 inch extending over the top and bottom. Adhere so that the trim covers the place where the two papers meet on the front cover. See sample image above for placement. Be sure to fold the ends of the trim over to the back of the journal cover and adhere. Tie another length of the ribbon or trim to the hold in the shipping tag. Then adhere the tag to the front of the journal.
Step Four: Reattach the cover to the journal. Present to the teacher and enjoy!!!
Until next time…
