I am finally recovered from Quilt Market and am now nursing a sprained ankle which will give me time to sit down, edit photos, write and post…which I have been dying to do but have found little time since Market to focus energy on. Emma’s Birthday Party-A Spa Party for 12 of her friends was Tuesday afternoon. The party was manicures, pedicures, and crafting flip flops with fabric embellishments -no shortage of fabric in the house! So back to Quilt Market. The show is a trade only event where we meet with quilt and fabric shop owners, the press, and other industry publishers and manufacturers. The pictures above are from our from our booth and several feature my upcoming fabric line from Red Rooster. It was a great show- seeing the enthusiasm for sewing and new stores opening was so inspiring!! We introduced 18 new patterns at the show. Here is a link for a closer look.

Vintage Artwork can be used for Embroidery
I have always loved handwork. My grandmother was always working on something with her hands from embroidery to crocheting. It was so much fun during the summers of my childhood to sit with grandma while she taught me how to create beautiful things with my hands just as her grandmother had taught her. (more…)

On March 9th, I had the privilege of volunteering with Terry Grahl of Enchanted Makeovers at an event for NewHouse Women’s Shelter. Enchanted Makeovers is a wonderful nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming shelters for women and children into places of peace and possibilities—not just where basic needs are met, but also spiritual needs for hope and beauty.
They sponsored an event here in Kansas City to benefit the women of NewHouse Shelter - a shelter for victims of domestic violence. The event, called Recipes of Hope, involved cooking at Function Junction with the 30 women who live at Newhouse and sitting down to the meal at nearby Gifted Hands (www.giftedhandskc.com) while sharing laughter, tears and fellowship.
Terry & our team helped to set a beautiful table (see the pictures of the neat vintage box centerpieces) and made it a day to remember. The raffle prizes and gift bags were all handcrafted with a special touch of love. A beautiful quilt created by Debbie Maddy (www.calicocarriage.com) was awarded in a drawing. Each participant also received a full-filled gift bag that included beauty items like makeup, personal items, a pillowcase (donated as part of the Harper’s Fabrics participation in the 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge) plus each received a handmade apron to use in the cooking class with Rachel Gaffney (www.rachelgaffneys.com).
It was such fun to mingle and fellowship with this courageous group of women and see how our community came together to help brighten their lives. I encourage everyone to be a part of something in your community that helps spread the joy through crafting, sewing or just sharing your joy and love of life. Enchanted Makeovers is looking to build a partner network nationwide. Please visit Terry’s website www.enchantedmakeovers.com to learn more about this wonderful charity.

I wanted to share some photos from my trip to the Sew Expo In Puyallup, Washington. I was hosted by the Pacific Fabrics and Crafts booth, which has six locations as well as an online store. I presented two sell-out lectures Sew Vintage and Craft a Business:Sewing for Profit. Cheryl joined me to help out, and we had a great time working the booth with the Pacific Fabrics team!! I found some vintage treasures at the show I want to share with you. I also met some new friends whose businesses I want to share as well. Carol Saber of Japanese Textiles & Tours shares her jacket featuring vintage kimono fabric. Dyan Emery of Jennifer Osner Textiles share wonderful treasures including the gorgeous fuchsia and black crazy quilt I bought! Love the idea to take the vintage photo frame and use blackboard paint to turn in into a sign!!

October was a busy month! In early October travels took us to Houston, Texas for the International Quilt Market. We exhibit each year at this trade only event. It is our chance to share our new Indygo Junction patterns and books to quilt and fabric arts retailers as well as preview new fabrics and products for the coming months. After almost 20 years of doing this show, we still enjoy going to Houston–a fabulous convention center and bustling downtown make it a great destination for the show…not to mention the wonderful food. Here is a link to one of our favorites La Ninfa’s-a great video too! To see the new designs we offered click here.
