So the winners are…..

April B. from Raleigh, NC who wrote:

“This year’s raised bed garden of 4 10 foot long beds plus tubs, contains 11 varieties of mostly heirloom tomatoes I grew from seed, 8 different peppers, 5 different eggplants, snow peas, sugar snap peas, fava beans, okra, pattpan squash, zucchini, leeks, perennial onions, yacon, oca, yellow sweet potatoes, blue irish potatoes, malabar spinach, wild arugula, 4 different colors of pole beans, butterbeans, 3 different cukes, charantais melons, dwarf butternut squash, swiss chard, magenta spreen, and about 30 different herbs. There are more things but those are Fall and Winter veggies yet to come. I garden organically and most of these are one plant of each kind with obvious exceptions! It’s always a joy to go out and gather things for dinner and see what might have started to flower or fruit or just germinate…a soul refreshing moment!”

and Sherry - whom I’m still waiting to here from - hint, hint!!!! - who wrote:

“My daughter and I planted strawberries and several types of herbs. She is 11 and this is her first experience with gardening. She was so pleased to harvest our one and only strawberry. We are awaiting the rest to ripen, but she could hardly wait for that first berry to turn red. (I would call it dark pink…but she ate it!)”

Thanks to everyone who left a comment. It looks like it will be a healthy springtime around the country with all the vegetables growing and a beautiful site with all the great flowers.  Good luck keeping all the various critters away!

A special thanks to all of the bloggers who posted about our contest. I hope you enjoy your cards sets. We hope to be doing more in the future to build our creative community of bloggers and readers.

Until next time…

Hankie Project featured in Country Living

Hankie Project featured in Country Living

Featured in the May 2010 issue of Country Living Magazine’s “idea notebook” section are three great projects inspired by Amy Barickman’s Hankie Style book. Amy is the founder of both Indygo Junction and The Vintage Workshop. The instructions and templates for all three projects: Table Runner, Tank Top, and Sachet are all available through the magazine, but we are sharing one project here with you now.

The Vintage Workshop offers beautiful vintage hankie images you can print onto fabric yourself so you don’t have to “use” your vintage versions.  Click here to browse all of our hankie images.  See below for a few samples.  Click here for printable fabrics.

Indygo Junction, our sister company, also offers sets of reproduction hankies plus patterns that use hankies. Click here to browse these hankie sets and other products that feature hankies

To create the sachets shown above follow these simple steps:

To make a sachet, cut a four-inch square from a hankie. With the pattern side up, fold three corners toward the square’s center. Hand-stitch the sides together. Turn the sachet inside out, press, and sew a decorative button atop the flap. Fill the pouch with dried lavender, then secure the flap with some hidden hand-sewn stitches.

Until next time…
