Last week I traveled to shop the Atlanta Gift Market. So much to see!!! I was focused on anything with vintage-inspired style.  Here are some photos I thought I would share. I had not attended this show for several years, so it was fun to be back. What do you think?

Don’t roses just make you feel good. My mother always claimed she hated getting flowers for special occasions especially roses. Her justification was that the life of the flowers didn’t justify the cost spent. She was happier with daisies or carnations. I have always loved getting flowers especially roses and I’ve found a way to make them last a lifetime!!

When my husband first gave me red roses - we were only dating then - I was so excited I never wanted to throw them in the trash. Not just because I tend to be a hoarder, but the sentiment was so touching. So they stayed in the vase until they turned a deep, almost blackish red and dried up completely.  I decided I had to keep them but didn’t know what to do with them. Then - an idea!! I took off all the petals and gingerly put them into a glass bowl - like a fish bowl - I got for a couple bucks at a dollar store.  Then I added some rose oil scent that I’d gotten at a fair years before. It smelled so good and was like making your own potpourri.  I still have this bowl sitting on my shelf after almost 13 years.

How do you work to preserve the past? Do you remember all the romantic moments in some special way? Share your comments on love & roses!!  Until next time… Cheryl

There are many reasons to make your own Valentine’s Day cards and tags this year.  The practical reasons of saving time and money are always a plus, but the best reason of all may be to give a meaningful gift from the heart. Hand making a Valentine’s Day card for your loved one tells them more than the message written on it. It tells them that you thought enough of them to give time and love to create something personal just for them.  It’s much more meaningful than looking down the row of cards at the local store and picking one out that says what you want to say. Create Your Own Card Set

Create Your Own Card Set

Create decorative box set of cards

Create decorative box set of cards

You can easily create your own boxed card sets for a personalized birthday gift this year.  You will need a few supplies like glue or double sided tape; a color coordinating box to fit your cards in (we choose a skinny pink box); coordinating ribbon, a scrap of coordinating paper to mount box cover image (we choose black), corresponding number of envelopes to fit your cards (again we choose black) and card stock weight paper.

Simply printing your favorite image (we used Eiffel Tower - SI0130) onto a card stock paper.  You might want to try a glossy paper for shinier cards.  Cut them out and fold in half - cards are done!!  Print a smaller version and mount on coordinating paper - see box top in picture above. You use this smaller version for the box lid.

Choose a coordinating ribbon to tie your box closed and tie your cards together. Be sure the length of ribbon you cut off first will tie around your closed box.  Center it on the top of your box and adhere. Then glue/tape your image to the center of the top of the box over the ribbon.

Tie extra ribbon around the cards and envelopes. Optional:  Put a wide strip of vellum around the cards/envelopes and tie the ribbon around centered on the vellum strip. See photo for details. Put them in the box and then tie the ribbon around the back. It’s a wonderful gift that’s easy to make.

Until next time…
